Research at the Princess Máxima Center

Intensification of research into cancer in children is important for achieving the objectives of the Princess Máxima Center. That’s why we bring the best possible care and the best scientific research together under one roof. By combining care and research in a single center – and even on the same floor in the same corridor – an immediate exchange of knowledge takes place among doctors and researchers. This has a positive influence on the development of new drugs and treatment methods. With research by the best researchers, led by the internationally renowned scientist Prof. Dr. Hans Clevers, we will increase the chances of cure in the future and avoid complications during and after treatment. In addition, we apply ourselves to both basic laboratory research and applied clinical and psychosocial patient-related research. Our ambition is to become the leading scientific research institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.

Research groups

At the present time, there are 8 research groups with a total of about 50 employees. You can read more about our research groups on our website. In the coming years, we expect to grow to at least 20 research groups.

Until the opening of the new building, we have a floor in the Hubrecht Institute, centrally located in the Utrecht Science Park “De Uithof”.
